Short Film
15 seconds to 3 minutes, documentary, fiction, experimental, animation, archival footage, or any cinematic form.

Photography
A single, standalone photograph with no text overlay. The image speaks alone.

Photo & Story
One photo + 50 to 200 words. No technical skill required. Only memory and honesty.

1st Place: $500 (4 winners)
2nd Place: $250 (4 winners)
3rd Place: $150 (4 winners)

Youth Prize — for participants under 18

People's Choice Award — highest reactions on Facebook

The Jury

Seven independent jurors evaluate all four categories. Each work is scored on its own merit, not weighed against entries in other categories.

Jurors are selected for cultural credibility and independence. None hold an active role in producing the contest or curating its submissions.

Submission Rules

Open to everyone — no geographic or age restrictions

Work must be original and previously unpublished

Up to 5 submissions per category per participant

Participants retain full rights to their work

Accepted works will be published on Black Basalt Foundation's social media with full credit to the creator

Any work depicting, naming, quoting, or referencing a current political figure will be immediately disqualified. Historical figures and archival material are exempt.
